The Grand Hotel has an impressive lineage, built by Emmanuel Héré, designer of Stanislas square and architect to King Stanislas of Poland. The hotel, surrounding buildings and monuments were placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1983 for being of "truly outstanding interest and representing universal values". In 2005 Stanislas square was completely renovated, returning it to its former state, as a fully pedestrianised area.
